IPv6

The latest version of IP

BNIX uses the IPv4 Internet Protocol and is ready for the latest version, IPv6. The standard protocol is currently IPv4, but the increasing number of users and online applications mean that it will no longer be satisfactory in future. Because the number of IPv4 addresses will ultimately be insufficient, IPv6 will be the successor to the standard protocol.

 

You can configure IPv6 in two ways

  • by using a specific IPv6 port
  • by configuring IPv4 and IPv6 on the same port (dual stacking) on the VLAN for unicast and/or multicast

To activate an IPv6 unicast connection on BNIX, you should adopt the following procedure.
BNIX has been assigned the following IPv6 unicast range: 2001:7f8:26::/64

Every participant can set up their own address by replacing the xs in the range ‘2001:7f8:26::A5xx:xxxx:n/64’ with their AS number preceded by the correct number of zeros.

Example: BELNET AS2611

Address: 2001:7f8:26::A500:2611:1/64

 

To activate an IPv6-multicast connection on BNIX, you should adopt the following procedure.

BNIX has been assigned the following IPv6 multicast range: 2001:7f8:26:8000::/64

Every participant can set up their own address by replacing the xs in the range ‘2001:7f8:26:8000::A5xx:xxxx:n/’ with their AS number preceded by the correct number of zeros.

Example: BELNET AS2611

Address: 2001:7f8:26:8000::A500:2611:1/64
